Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Emblems Accidentally Leaked
The Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic emblems have been accidentally leaked by the Games' official YouTube channel. The cockatoo-inspired emblems were set to be officially revealed on Monday, but were instead revealed in a preview image for an "Emblem Explainer" video.
The highly anticipated emblems for the Brisbane 2032 Olympics and Paralympics have been accidentally leaked by the Games' official YouTube channel, ahead of their scheduled unveiling on Monday.
Pieces of the emblem had been gradually revealed over the past week, but the full picture was revealed in the preview image of an "Emblem Explainer" video set to go live on Monday morning. The cockatoo-inspired emblem features a living torch, reminiscent of the iconic Olympic and Paralympic flame, shaped like Queensland with its eye on Brisbane.
"The Brisbane 2032 emblems are inspired by the spirited cockatoo — a symbol of Australia's unique wildlife and playful heart! The cockatoo's crest is a living torch, reminiscent of the iconic Olympic and Paralympic flame," an explanation of the emblem reportedly read.
"Shaped like Queensland, with its eye on Brisbane, the emblem is a universal symbol to unite Brisbane, Australia and the world in 2032."
The image has subsequently been removed from YouTube. Olympics Minister Tim Mander told the Today show he was "excited" the emblem was "finally out".
"The emblem is something that will make us known around the world with regard to the Games in 2032," he said.
"We just want to celebrate it." Mr Mander would not comment when questioned if the leak was planned.
"Obviously there were people so enthusiastic about looking for the emblem that they'd been scanning the internet," he said.
"It's appeared for a short time, and it's out there."
Brisbane 2032 chief marketing officer Brent Hill said the reaction to the emblem has been positive.
"If we had our time over, maybe there's different ways that we could have done it," Mr Hill said.
"The overarching piece from our side is still the fact that we wanted people to guess, we wanted the clues to be out there, and now it's out there. The reaction to it has been really positive."
The emblem unveiling tour is set to continue in Brisbane this weekend after stops in Cairns, Townsville, Rockhampton and the Sunshine Coast last week. There will be a community unveiling of the emblem on Monday night in Brisbane.
