Brisbane's inner-city light pollution may not make it the most ideal spot for stargazing, but amateur astronomers and astrophotographers say there's still plenty to explore, especially with modern telescope technology.

Astrophotography involves capturing images of the night sky and celestial objects. For Sudath Wijeratne, this hobby began five years ago with a simple telescope and camera, taking pictures of the Moon. He has since upgraded to a small observatory on his Brisbane home's roof and a telescope capable of taking award-winning pictures.

While Brisbane's light pollution presents challenges, Mr. Wijeratne said it isn't a barrier to stargazing or astrophotography.
