Cairns School Stabbing: Teenager Hospitalized, Second Youth in Custody
A 15-year-old student was hospitalized today following an alleged stabbing incident at Trinity Bay State High School in Cairns. Police have since taken another teenager into custody as investigations continue.
CAIRNS – A serious incident unfolded at Trinity Bay State High School today, leaving a 15-year-old male student hospitalized and another teenager assisting police with their inquiries.
Emergency services were called to the Manunda campus just before noon on Monday, July 13, 2026, after reports of a student suffering a wound to his abdomen. Paramedics promptly transported the injured teenager to Cairns Hospital, where he remains in a stable condition.
Police Quick to Respond
Authorities swiftly launched an investigation into the alleged stabbing. It is understood that a second 15-year-old boy, who was reportedly known to the victim, left the school grounds on foot following the incident. Police officers located the individual approximately half an hour later in the nearby suburb of Kanimbla. He was subsequently taken into custody and is cooperating with the ongoing police investigation.
Investigators have assured the public that there is no ongoing threat to the school community or wider area. The incident is believed to be isolated, with police confirming that the two boys involved were acquainted with each other.

A spokesperson for the regional education department confirmed their awareness of the critical incident, stating that emergency services were required at the Far North Queensland school. "The school is actively communicating with impacted students and their families," the spokesperson said. "Comprehensive counselling and support mechanisms have been put in place for all students and staff who may require assistance during this challenging time."
