Homicide detectives have launched extensive investigations into the suspicious deaths of two women across Central Queensland this week. The unrelated incidents, occurring in Rockhampton and Blackwater, have prompted a significant police presence and an urgent appeal to the public for information.

Authorities have reassured the community there is no ongoing danger, despite the tragic nature of both investigations.

Rockhampton Incident Under Scrutiny

The most recent discovery unfolded just after 1:00 PM yesterday when a 32-year-old woman was found deceased at a ground-floor residence on Denham Street in Rockhampton's CBD. Police were called to the address after a relative requested a welfare check, leading to the grim find.

Initial observations by investigators revealed the woman had sustained a head injury, and it is believed she may have been deceased for over a day before her body was discovered. Detective Superintendent Darrin Shadlow confirmed that police are treating the death as suspicious given the circumstances and the nature of her injuries.

A major crime scene was established at the Rockhampton property, with forensic crews meticulously examining the area for evidence throughout Thursday. The woman, who had recently relocated to the area from interstate, was reportedly known to police, as was her 32-year-old partner who also resided at the address. Police have questioned the partner as part of their inquiries. No weapon has been identified in connection with the incident, and no charges have been laid, with the exact cause of death yet to be determined. Specialist homicide investigators from Brisbane have been deployed to assist local detectives in this complex case.

Separate Investigation in Blackwater

The Rockhampton investigation follows another tragic incident earlier in the week in Blackwater, approximately 200 kilometres west. On Sunday evening, police were called to a home on Oliffe Street where a 66-year-old woman was found unresponsive and subsequently declared dead at the scene. Homicide investigators are also assisting local officers with this separate inquiry.

Similar to the Rockhampton case, no charges have been laid in relation to the Blackwater death, and authorities are pursuing all available leads.

Community Urged to Assist

Investigators confirm that both deaths are being treated as suspicious and that all avenues, including the possibility of domestic violence, are being thoroughly explored in both independent investigations. Despite the serious nature of these cases, police maintain that there is no broader threat to the public, and these appear to be isolated incidents.

Police are urging anyone with information related to either the Denham Street incident in Rockhampton or the Oliffe Street death in Blackwater to come forward immediately. Members of the public can contact their local police station or Crime Stoppers confidentially to provide any details that could assist with these critical investigations.
