Police have seized an unregistered, damaged black Ford Falcon following a fatal hit-and-run in Greenbank, but the driver remains at large. Investigators are urgently appealing for witnesses, including the occupants of two vehicles seen nearby.
A local community is in mourning after a 20-year-old man was killed in a devastating hit-and-run incident in Greenbank, south of Brisbane, on Monday night.
The tragedy occurred shortly before 9:00 PM on Middle Road. Emergency services rushed to the scene, but despite the desperate, heroic efforts of the young man's friends to save him, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police Seize Damaged Ford Falcon
In a major breakthrough, investigators have located and seized a black Ford Falcon believed to be directly involved in the fatal collision. At the time of recovery, the vehicle was missing its registration plates and exhibited significant front bumper damage. The car has been taken into custody and is currently undergoing exhaustive forensic testing.
Detective Inspector Ian Galpin described the incident as an absolute tragedy that has sent shockwaves through the victim's social circle and the broader community.
"It's a tragic event. It would be very difficult for family and friends, particularly for people who may have witnessed the incident," Inspector Galpin said. "It's also difficult for someone who has knowledge of this to live with this on their conscience."
Hunt for Driver Continues as New Details Emerge
While the vehicle has been secured, the driver remains at large. Police are actively investigating the relationship between the parties, noting there is a possibility that the victim and the driver were known to one another.
When questioned about whether the fatal crash was linked to reports of hooning in the immediate area prior to the collision, police stated it would be premature to speculate, but confirmed they are keeping an open mind as the investigation progresses.
Witnesses Urgently Needed
Detectives are appealing to the public for assistance and are particularly interested in speaking with the occupants of two specific vehicles seen in the area around the time of the crash: a white LandCruiser and a dark-colored utility vehicle.
Local residents with CCTV cameras or motorists who were driving along Middle Road in Greenbank between 8:30 PM and 9:30 PM on Monday with dashcam footage are urged to contact authorities immediately.
