Detectives have charged eight teenagers with murder following a devastating assault at a Logan house party last month, alleging the group arrived armed and intent on violence.

The victim, 21-year-old Redbank Plains resident Jongkuch Kur Jongkuch, tragically passed away on August 1. He had been fighting for his life in hospital after being found unconscious with critical head injuries on Orchard Avenue on July 26, following reports of an out-of-control gathering at a nearby property on Discovery Boulevard in Bahrs Scrub.

A Premeditated Attack, Police Allege

According to local investigators, the accused group of teens—aged between 17 and 19—had formulated a plan before descending on the suburban address.

Detective Inspector Ian Galpin stated that police will allege the group armed themselves with various weapons before traveling to the party with the shared purpose of causing harm. "Police will allege that this group had a preconceived plan which included arming themselves with various weapons, before attending Bahrs Scrub with the common purpose of inflicting harm on persons at that address," Det. Insp. Galpin said.

While the Organised Crime Gangs Group has assisted with the investigation, authorities have not confirmed whether the incident was gang-related. Police have, however, expressed confidence that there is no risk of retaliatory violence.

Accused Face Court

The legal proceedings against the eight co-accused are now underway. On Monday, 18-year-olds Morad George, Jason Marik, and Benito Bikanye did not apply for bail during their brief appearance in the Brisbane Magistrates Court. A 17-year-old co-accused has had his case referred to the Brisbane Children's Court.

They join four other teens arrested last week: Joshua Jackson John Jirima, 18, Amnaud Nduwayo, 19, and Kandour Khalil Tagelsir, 18, who all face murder charges. Sunday Obol, 19, faces a string of charges including murder, unlawful stalking, robbery, extortion, and deprivation of liberty.

Additionally, a 22-year-old man has been charged with failing to comply with a digital access order. Most of the accused are scheduled to return to court later this month.

Community Stands United in Grief

In the wake of the tragedy, local community leaders are working closely with police liaison officers to maintain calm and address local anxieties. Det. Insp. Galpin praised the cooperation of community representatives, stating that their support was vital to the swift progress of the investigation.

Queensland African Communities Council President Beny Bol urged the public not to generalize the tragic incident. He emphasized that the actions of the accused were those of individuals and did not reflect the values of the wider community.

"This is about individuals making wrong choices and actions, and they must be held accountable," Mr. Bol said, adding that community members from across the country are traveling to Queensland to support the grieving family. "We hope that justice will prevail, and whoever got involved must pay the consequences for their actions."
