Residents across South-East Queensland can look forward to a welcomed dose of sunshine in the coming days, offering a brief respite from recent coastal showers before a gusty weather change rolls in ahead of the annual Ekka show.

Following a damp weekend that saw rainfall totals reach over 70 millimetres along parts of the north tropical coast and up to 20 millimetres on the Sunshine Coast, conditions are set to clear up by mid-week thanks to a surge of drier south-westerly winds.

Mid-Week Sunshine Before Weekend Showers Return

Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Felim Hanniffy noted that while dry and bright conditions will dominate the middle of the week, the sunny break will be relatively brief.

"Later in the week, we'll see some of those coastal showers return to part of the east coast again for Friday and into the weekend," Hanniffy explained. Light falls are anticipated across major centres, including the Gold Coast, Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast, and extending north toward Wide Bay Burnett and Capricornia.

Chilly Nights and Windy Conditions for Ekka Week

Inland regions will continue to experience brisk mornings, with sub-zero temperatures already recorded in the Granite Belt over the weekend. Extensive patchy frost remains likely across the southern interior as overnight temperatures stay on the cooler side.

Looking further ahead, meteorologists are keeping a close eye on more active weather systems set to track across southern Queensland next week. These systems are expected to bring stronger, gusty winds across the region just as thousands prepare to attend the Royal Queensland Show (Ekka).

While coastal wind warnings currently in place for the far north are expected to ease by Wednesday, locals across the south-east are advised to enjoy the mid-week sunshine and prepare for more turbulent, windy conditions next week.
