Two men have been charged in connection with a brazen carjacking incident at a Sunshine Coast shopping centre.

According to police, a 55-year-old man was threatened with a knife and forced to hand over his car keys at the Mount Coolum shopping centre on David Low Way just before 6:30pm on Monday.

A police helicopter was used to track the stolen vehicle, which led officers to deploy tyre spikes to slow the vehicle down at Ebbw Vale. The vehicle was eventually abandoned in Bundamba, where the driver fled on foot.

“A man was allegedly forced to hand over his keys at knifepoint at the Mount Coolum shopping centre.”

A 26-year-old Mount Coolum man was arrested shortly after and has been charged with armed robbery and unlawful use of a motor vehicle. He is due to face court in Ipswich.

A 29-year-old Yarrabilba man, who police say was sitting in the car when they arrived, has been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle. He was released on bail and is due to face court later this month.
