A 19-year-old man has been ordered to wear an electronic monitoring device while out on bail after allegedly threatening to "blow up" a unit block in Morningside, Brisbane.
Harley Adams appeared in Brisbane Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, charged with hate crime offences, following an alleged incident in the early hours of Monday morning. Police prosecutor Sergeant Matt Kahler described the incident as an "extraordinary racist outburst".
Sergeant Kahler alleged Mr Adams wrongfully believed the victims of his outburst had made a complaint which led to his eviction. They noted Mr Adams was apologetic once he was told no such complaint had been made.
According to the court, police allege other residents within the unit complex have been breaking leases and moving out due to Mr Adams' behaviour.
Court Warning
Magistrate Peter Saggers cautioned Mr Adams that the courts take violent claims seriously.
"When you say you're going to do things then the court will proceed on the basis of that's what you mean," he said.
"If you say you're going to blow yourself up and blow everybody up with you then there's no point in shaking your head because that's what I accept."
Mr Adams was granted bail on the condition that he wears an electronic monitoring device, stays away from the unit complex and its residents, and reports to the local police station three times a week.
His matter was adjourned to November 16.
