Amanda Stoker to take on child safety and domestic violence portfolios
Amanda Stoker has been appointed as Queensland's new child safety and family and domestic violence minister, replacing Amanda Camm who stepped down from the portfolio this week. Ms Stoker will also take on Ms Camm's former portfolios of families, seniors and disability services.
Member for Oodgeroo Amanda Stoker has been appointed to the child safety and domestic and family violence, and families, seniors and disability services portfolios.
Amanda Stoker will be Queensland's new child safety and family and domestic violence minister, taking over the role from embattled former minister Amanda Camm, who stepped down from the portfolio this week.
Ms Stoker was formerly the assistant minister for finance, trade, employment and training. She will also take on Ms Camm's former portfolios of families, seniors and disability services.
Ms Stoker said it was a privilege to play a greater role in the government. "This is, I don't think it's a shock to say, a difficult area in which to work, but I came to Queensland parliament to do hard things," she said.
"I will leave nothing in the tank."
The former minister advised Premier David Crisafulli she would be standing down on Thursday, saying it was her decision. Ms Camm returned from six weeks' sick leave just a fortnight ago, after undergoing "major surgery".
The Whitsunday MP had faced months of intense scrutiny, including over children in residential care sleeping on the floor of child safety offices, and cuts to the DFV prevention sector in the latest state budget.
Ms Stoker said Ms Camm had her "deep respect". "I think she's laid a really good foundation," she said.
"I look forward to driving the implementation of the response to the commission of inquiry."
Mr Crisafulli said Ms Stoker's performance indicators were clear. "We are not going to the next election without kids being adopted out of residential care," he said.
"That has got to happen, that is my expectation and it will happen."
Ms Stoker was assistant minister for finance, trade, employment and training, and a federal senator for Queensland from 2018 to 2022. Thuringowa MP Natalie Marr will take over the assistant ministry.
