Lynagh, who started as fly half in all three British and Irish Lions Tests last year, managed just 18 minutes for the Reds last season due to a series of injuries. Gordon had established himself as the Wallabies' first-choice fly half, leaving Cotter with some big calls ahead of a clash with South Africa and a two-Test Bledisloe Cup in the next six weeks.
