Queensland Teen Charged with Promoting Violent Extremist Content Online
An 18-year-old Queensland man has been charged with promoting violent extremist content on social media, targeting Muslims, Jews, and migrants. He faces 30 offences, including transmitting extremist material and possessing child abuse content.
A young man from Queensland has been charged with multiple offences related to promoting violent extremist content on social media. The 18-year-old allegedly operated multiple social media channels that supported violence against people of Muslim, Jewish, and migrant backgrounds.
According to police, the investigation began after a report from international authorities alleging an Australian user was spreading extremist content online. On May 27, officers from the Queensland Joint Counter Terrorism Team executed a search warrant at a home in Warner, north of Brisbane, seizing several electronic devices.
Police said a forensic examination of the devices allegedly revealed extremist content and child abuse material. The man has been charged with 30 offences, including "using a carriage service to transmit violent extremist material", "using a carriage service to harass or cause offence", and "possessing or controlling child abuse material".
The man first appeared in court on May 27 and was remanded in custody. He is expected to reappear in Pine River Magistrates Court today.
